The Rural Incentives Programme aims to encourage doctors to practice in regional, rural and remote communities and to encourage careers in rural medicine through financial incentives. Local Health District (LHDs) is managed and funded by the NSW Government Ministry of Health. They are responsible for providing public health care in the defined geographic areas of NSW. HDDs manage all public health facilities throughout the NSW, from large teaching hospitals to small neighbourhood hospitals. Back up For a patient`s medical care to be subsidized by Medicare, the attending physician must have an up-to-date Medicare provider number tailored to where the service is provided. The service must be subsidized by Medicare. Physicians also require a provider number to refer patients to specialist physicians so that the patient can benefit from a Medicare discount for the specialized service. Medicare Provider Numbers are issued by the Department of Human Services (Medicare Australia). Some restrictions apply to physicians` eligibility for a Medicare provider number.

The Rural Doctors Association (NSW) is one of seven members of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia. RDA NSW is a non-profit organization whose core business is to ensure the viability of work in the country for field doctors, addressing the most important industrial issues and committing to health services for rural communities. Membership in the GDR (NSW) is open to all field doctors, students, general practitioners and NSW specialists, not just those working in the 125 small rural hospitals in New South Wales. A bonus/agreement is the basis of all wages and conditions for workers covered by the classifications it contains, i.e. the premium or agreement sets the minimum payments that a doctor receives in training.
